LIQUID RAILCAR LOADING STATION
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Terrapure Environmental (formerly known as Newalta) is a major recycler of industrial residues and deals in the recovery and recycling of products such as acids and oils. Terrapure’s North Vancouver facility is a used oil refinery that recycles base oils, lubricants and other products. New product is created and shipped to distribution centers. Amongst the different methods used to export product from the facility, rail-car transport is becoming more widely used. Strict adherence to procedures alone was the previous method employed to prevent spills into the environment and keep operators safe during the railcar filling process. Enginuity Consulting was approached to perform an initial feasibility study, project planning, budgeting, as well as engineering and design of physical safety and environmental upgrades. Upgrades consisted of spill containment, enhanced monitoring of loading operations including camera surveillance, spill containment automatic mechanical and electrical systems, as well as a report on additional fall safety when working on top of railcars. Project management was provided throughout the duration of the project.
