STEEL STORAGE AND PROCESSING FACILITY

Varsteel Ltd. is a leading provider of steel, rebar, pipe and piling and structural steel in Canada and the United States. As part of a capital expansion project for a brand new 240,000 sq. foot facility in Delta BC, Enginuity Consulting was hired by Varsteel to function as key consultants and design engineers to oversee project progress from feasibility to commissioning of the project.

Various concepts for different dimensions of the project were developed and presented to the owners pertaining to design variability, and cost effectiveness. Feasibility assessments were completed to determine equipment envelopes, layout plans, worker flow paths and product flow paths in relations to production requirements and cost effectiveness and production of a capital cost estimation. Various BCBC, CSA and ANSI were consulted for various disciplines of the project to confirm conformation to code, standards, and by-laws. After the feasibility and design stages, scope and tender documents were created for contractors. Scopes were budgeted and scheduled for sub-contractors, followed by coordination for procurement of materials.

During the duration of the project, sub-contractor budget and scope was reviewed and progressed. This included but not limited to mechanical scope, hydraulics scope, civil scope, structural scope, electrical scope and geotechnical scope. Throughout the duration of the execution phase of the project, risks were analysed and mitigated. Progress, risk and outcomes were reported cyclically to the owners. Closeout documents were prepared and submitted, which included all engineering, certifications, designs, which emphasis on future usability.
